I don’t feel ready, but in truth I never would. Then the fight begins in earnest.Īre you dragging all of those dudes and dudettes around with you, or do you have most of them in garrisons? I can imagine that that wages bill is killing you.Īlso, to repeat my first question for the general readership, has anyone tried to use mostly Khergit troops for the mobility edge? Top off the recruitment with more Swadian cavalry and I should reach 3000 soldiers total soon. I’ll first do a goodwill tour of the Nord Kingdom (doing quests for villages), then a couple of recruitment drives will hopefully yield several hundred Nord soldiers. I should also act while we (Swadia) is only at war with one kingdom (right now the Khergits). Ideally, I would also like to have the command ability well over 400, but with troop wages in excess of 25000 I can’t keep hoarding soldiers forever. I still want hundreds of troops more before I begin campaigning in earnest. This means I can now recruit Nord infantry, which should be handy for siege work. In other news, good news! Through hard diplomatic work (save scumming) I’ve managed to broker peace between ourselves and the Nords. Warband obviously has lots of improvements, but not enough to make me start another game. I spent so much time playing the original that the changes to combat in Warband really threw me off. Timing the jab is tricky, but turning in your saddle, just as a Khergit does a stop-and-turn manoeuvre to give you the slip, and shoving the lance through his chest, is particularly satisfying. But the lance is great for stabbing attacks against Khergits, even in head-on engagements.

I rarely use couched lance attacks any more, preferring my sword or morning star against footsoldiers (the morning star is an absolute death machine, one-hit killing most enemies regardless of their armour). Still, there’s a unique satisfaction in chasing a Khergit, delicately maneuvering to intercept him (with armour, weapons and a Heavy Hunter I can barely keep up) and then jabbing them with my lance. I really hate the fact that their map speed lets them choose when to fight and when to run, and battles are drawn-out affairs as their horse archers circle strafe around the battlefield. Not a good thing when you’re trying to build a vast army of doom. I’m still a good deal stronger than them, but my attrition rate is higher. On a more positive note, I’ve been fighting the Khergits quite a bit, and they are easily the toughest opponent. I still need way more than 2000 troops though. SIXTY! My plan was to boost my command ability well beyond 400 before initiating the next phase, but I’m not sure I can keep my temper for that long. Troops that I have paid and fed and trained to top or near-top level. Morale drops and I end up losing sixty of my recently gained troops. He then proceeds to cruise from one end of Calradia to the other with very little to show for it, and with me in tow. I also have to fight (or plunder) regularly to keep up morale and that can be tricky with the slow speed of my army of greenhorns.Īnd then King Harlaus The Knobhead decides on another idiotic military campaign and call me up halfway through a recruitment drive. My earlier raids on some Rhodok villages is coming back to bite me though. Raiding Khergit villages is a cheap source of food and of no serious consequence since I won’t be recruiting any Khergits for my army. As I am generally popular/notorious, finding recruits is not a problem, but keeping them happy is.

Touring the villages of Swadia, the Vaegir realm and the Rhodok lands takes a lot of time.

My only regret is that the war with the Nords prevents me from recruiting Nord infantry, and Rhodoks are a poor substitute.
Lance recruitment system warband mod#
There was one mod of that type that was really nice, but in the end I just said screw it and went with Native and a few tweaks.ĮDIT: I have Warband, but I’ve never been able to come to terms with how you swing a sword/axe/club from horseback in Warband, hence I’m playing the original.Īnyway, I have now gathered 2000 troops. I prefer an early medieval setting, roughly similar to Native.

I’ve tried quite a few mods and there certainly are some great ones out there. Krise - can I ask why you play native, and not some of the mods out there? I’d go crazy having to go back to basics, so to speak
